NOTE: The early /6 engines have a couple of dowel pins pressed in to the top of the cylinder or the bottom of the cylinder head. BMW decided this was a bad idea and stopped using the dowel pins in 1975. They do not make a head gasket with a hole to accept the dowel pin. The correct procedure is for you to remove and discard the dowel pins. Smooth out the area with a couple of strokes with a fine toothed flat file. Then the 11 12 1 338 716 head gaskets work perfectly.
